Aja pulled the folded parchment from inside her robes, gingerly stepping up the damp Owlery steps. The morning was cool and the grounds themselves were quiet, waiting for the day to begin. She’d pulled herself up from the depths of the dungeons and into the crisp air in order to find her owl. In truth, it wasn’t her owl. It was her brother, Actaeon’s hawk owl and she was really just sending him back to Greece.
She’d been at Hogwarts for a few weeks and already, her head hurt. It wasn’t the classes or anything like that. It was just that being in an English speaking country in general was driving her insane. Her dorm mates gave her odd looks when she started grumbling about their idiocy in Greek. They didn’t understand a word of it and she preferred it that way. If they did, then she’d be in trouble.
Around Aja, owls of all variations hooted as they settled in for the day. The stern looking hawk owl she was looking for opened his sharp eyes and twisted his head toward her before opening his wide wings and soaring down toward her. He perched upon the wall beside her and waited.
“Here you are Pericles,” she spoke in gentle Greek. “Take this to Actaeon for me.” Pericles the owl hooted once more, accepting the owl treat she offered before taking flight out the windows.
She watched him disappear into the early morning before pulling out Actaeon’s message and rereading it. Aja treasured her family, a fact that seemed to confuse most of her friends, considering the stereotypes surrounding many of their – stature. There were rumours abounding about the Hamilton’s. Many of these rumours were simply products of an overactive imagination in a world rebuilding itself after the attack of a dark wizard. Other rumours were not rumours at all but she refused to approve or deny them. She was not about to send her family to a place like Azkaban.
